You might be asking yourself, "What's a flowrider?" Simple enough, its a man-made wave that runs at around 20mph that you can surf or bodyboard on. We are lucky enough to be able to travel around the country to ride and compete on many different flowriders, and would like to make our favorite sport / hobby more accessible to others.

2 updates in 1 day!
Dr. Feelgood (again, not his real name), signed off on me going to get an x-ray on my ankle / foot area. The outpatient x-ray place closes at 4:30, so I will not be going today, but will soon enough. What's one or two more days?
Pain in the....ankle
It's been 6 weeks and 3 days since I fell and hurt my knee and ankle. Six weeks that I've been wearing a brace and walking funny. Six weeks since I've ridden. My knee feels much better, though putting too much pressure on it, like kneeling, doesn't feel too good. Its my ankle that is holding me back.
I never went and got an MRI or an X-ray when this happened. I have been going to a chiropractor and he has been working with me to strenghten the muscles and stuff. But, I still hurt. I don't think this is normal, so I'm going to ask Dr. Feelgood (my chiropractor, not his real name, though wouldn't that be great?!?) if he can do an X-Ray to see if there are any fractures. Enough is enough!
I'll keep you updated.

oh man....update time
I just realized that I haven't updated anything since the ILLINOIS comp. In JUNE. EARLY JUNE. And its now SEPTEMBER and the season is OVER! I am so sorry! Not to make excuses, but its been a busy summer between summer classes for my masters and traveling, some things just get pushed back (like blogging and cleaning...but blogging is much more fun).
Anyway, I guess I need to catch you up.
The competition in Idaho was cancelled and moved to Moses Lake, Washington (Great flow, great people!). I was unable to attend (classes!), but Aaron went and got 1st in Drop Knee.
Aaron then went to the 3 stops in California. Again, I couldn't go b/c of class, but Aaron came back with 2 golds and a silver. He also got to ride B-Max (pictures later).
After that, we took a brief break and so our next comp was the 2 day Camelbeach / Split Rock extravaganza. Aaron placed 1st at both, and I was like 5th or 6th.
The next week, I went with Aaron to Minneapolis to the competition at the Waterpark of America. Aaron placed 2nd and I got 5th or 6th.
After that came Nationals in Ogden, Utah! Aaron got 2nd, but won the tour championship. I placed 6th at Nationals, but was 5th overall in the points.
We were planning to either take a trip Labor Day or have some Super Duper friends come down to visit, but both fell through. I'm kind of glad we didn't as I fell doing a 360 and hurt both my knee and my ankle. I'm not really sure what I did, but my dad (the retired athletic trainer) thinks I sprained my ankle and either did the same to the knee or had the cap move or have a bone bruise. Or all or none of the above.
So, thats our flow summer in a nutshell.

Splash City, Collinsville, IL
Aaron and I had a great time in Collinsville this year! It was so nice having time to catch up with friends! During the course of the trip, I officially decided that West Virginia should be eliminated from our trip, as it adds almost 4 hours to the trip, plus mountains and bad drivers and Bambi's mom. I don't know when the rest of the country is going to recognize my decree, but its out there, its gonna happen.
Anyway, back to the action. It started out as a really hot day, but a couple storms blew through and we had to take a couple breaks. Aaron judged a lot of the heats, and did a great job!
I don't have all of the results, I was worried about the rain starting again, so I didn't break my camera out to take pictures of the awards ceremony, but what I do know is that Aaron won 1st in Drop Knee and I got 3rd in women's flowboard.

Thats Aaron on his new board, the Cartel flowfish. He looks great!

We had a weekend off this weekend (19th and 20th of June), but next weekend, Aaron is flying out to Spokane, Washington to compete in Moses Lake, Washington. I'm sure a good time will be had by all involved (especially since Aaron will get to hang out with his Navy buddies!)

New address
Ohio Comp
I just wanted to send some love to all those competing in Ohio this weekend. Unfortunately, Aaron and I won't be making it----lots of extenuating circumstances, such as Aaron working, my mom having back surgery, my sister having her wisdom teeth out---it was like the universe said, "Furmans, do NOT go to Ohio this weekend!" and so we aren't!
But, as always, best of luck to all competitors. Remember to represent the sport, your home waterpark, and yourself well.
DON"T FORGET TO TEXT ME UPDATES!!!!!!!!

We got a new camera yesterday, a Nikon d5000. Here is Amanda's favorite shot of the inaugural shoot. This was taken at Massanutten Waterpark (Harrisonburg, VA) on Thursday afternoon. Everyone was there practicing for the Flow for Dough Competition on Saturday (more to come on that later!)
Anyway, Amanda's favorite picture.....

New Boards
I just ordered new boards for Aaron last night. Paul at Cartel is awesome and so nice to work with! Aaron ordered a new bodyboard, and is also getting a new "flowfish" from Cartel. I'm pretty excited about the flowfish, it just looks so different from all the other boards(I'll post pictures when it comes in). I'm anxious to see if Aaron will like it :)

Something something something FLOWRIDER
We can thank Family Guy's Star Wars spoof for inspiring this blog.
We welcomed another convert to the Dark Side this week. My little sister, Allison, is now learning how to ride standup. She's doing pretty good, she has good balance (surprisingly) and has that family drive to do well in something she likes. Her first time on she was able to carve (just a little, but more than I could my first time!) and her second day out, she wanted to learn how to start herself. Well, actually, she wanted to skip loading herself from the side and just go to top loading, but we told her that wasn't a good idea :)
Here is a video clip of her first day.
Enjoy!

p.s. The music in the video is by the Glee Cast. It is a mashup of Walking on Sunshine and Halo.

Six Flags Great Escape Indoor Waterpark
This past weekend, (Jan 8-10), we braved the artic chill, snow flurries, and drove 7 1/2 hours to visit the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark (whoa thats a long name!) in Queensbury, New York to ride their flowrider. Aaron and I plan on writing a more comprehensive review of the waterpark and lodge, but for now, just know that we had a great time! I hope to have, not only the review, but pictures and video clips up within the week.
I also just wanted to say that I'm changing the focus of the blog just a little. I've looked back on my posts and I've noticed that they have become less and less about me trying to learn how to ride (as was my original intention) and more and more about competitions, places we've been and other stories of flowriding interest. So, that is the going to be the new direction I'm taking the blog. Oh sure, I still might throw in some cute little anecdote about falling on my face while spinning or something, but overall, that is where we're headed.
