Upcoming competition

In case you haven't heard, there will be a competition at Split Rock Resort (PA) on January 9th. Aaron and I aren't sure yet if we're going to attend or go somewhere else. But, if you're interested, here's where you can find all the info:

Where in the world....?

So, I was really excited to log in the other day and see that I had over 800 hits on the blog (and, that they weren't all mine!) Since not many of you leave comments, I really have no idea who you all are, where you're from, what you like, etc. Just to satisfy my curiosity, leave me a comment with your name (first is just fine), where you're from / where you ride, and if you ride stand-up or bodyboard (or both).

The first official footage of my 360's. More footage of both Aaron and I to come soon.

I just love Aaron's commentary at the end :)

A big "Thank you!" to Jonathan Root, of Team RootBerry (follow them on Facebook or Twitter) for posting the results of the 2009 Flow Tour!

Update

Things have been a little busy around here, but just to do a quick update:
July:
Aaron won 1st in masters bodyboarding in Minneapolis
I got 3rd in womens bodyboarding in Minneapolis

August:
Aaron won masters bodyboarding at Camelbeach
I got 4th in womens flowboarding (standup) at Camelbeach

Aaron won masters bodyboarding at Waterville, Alabama / Nationals
Aaron won the tour championship for masters bodyboarding.
I won 5th at Nationals in womens flowboarding, and ended up being 3rd or 4th overall in points.

September:
We redid the bottom of my board. We now call it "The Lazarus Board" 'cause it just won't die!
I finally am able to do 360's consistantly (of course, 2 weeks after nationals). I'm now working on doing weak side 360's.

October:
We went to Sahara Sams Oasis for an in-house comp. Aaron and I helped judge, register, and tally, while also competing.
Aaron won the pro bodyboarding category and I got 2nd in women's flowboarding.

Article on Ogden Comp

Great article! Sorry you have to cut and paste!

http://www.standard.net/live/news/179186

Republic, MO, Ogden, Utah and Minneapolis, MN

Its been a busy couple of weeks for us, and we still have 2 comps to go!

Aaron flew to Republic on July 18 and flew back the 19th! He was a little late getting there, but won 1st in masters!

The next weekend, we flew to Ogden (see next post for an article about the comp!). Ogden was great---not only did Aaron win 1st in masters and 3rd in drop knee, but we were able to do the i-fly (indoor skydiving) at the Salomon Center. It is definitly a place that we'll go back to.

This past weekend, we went to Minneapolis. We got to go to the Mall of America and a Twins game. Again, Aaron got 1st in masters, and 5th in drop knee. I got 4th in womens bodyboarding.

This weekend, we'll be competing at Camelbeach (PA) and after that, Nationals in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Collinsville, Illinois flow comp

Even though it was scorchingly hot, we had a great time here in Collinsville. We rode on Friday, and competed on Saturday. On Sunday, we went to St. Louis---you could see the Arch from the waterpark! We didn't realize how close Collinsville actually was to St. Louis, so next year, instead of driving 11 hours, I think we're going to fly.

But, anyway...the results are as follows: Aaron got 1st place in Masters (30+) bodyboarding and 3rd in drop knee; Curtis got 1st in drop knee, 1st in Expert bodyboarding and 3rd in Expert Standup; I got 3rd in women's bodyboading and 4th in women's standup. Congrats all around! We were blinging pretty hard, thats for sure :)

Pics to come!

Great article about the Kellogg, Idaho Competition

From www.flowboardermag.com, an article written by Chris Granone, owner of World Class Bodyboards (WCB) about the recent competition in Kellogg, Idaho. Read on:

SILVER RAPIDS RESULTS - KELLOGG, ID

THE NATIONS TOP FLOWBOARDS ARRIVE AT SILVER RAPIDS IN KELLOGG, ID FOR THE 5TH STOP AA RATED EVENT ON THE 2009 WAVE LOCH FLOW TOUR.

Silver Rapids drew 30 competitors from around the Nation riding in 11 divisions in 45 spaces in both Flowboarding and Bodyboarding, as the AA Rated event provided $ 2500.00 in cash split in the two Expert divisions and offered over $ 1000.00 in additional prizes and awards.

Local riders held their own against some of the sport’s top talent as Jake Sieler won the junior Bodyboard division and local Mason Adsit took second. Men’s Bodyboard was won by Kyler Bill of Utah. The Masters Bodyboard final results had Aaron Furman of Virginia on top with a close second from Texas rider Cathy Seabert. Female Bodyboard was another awesome final with Morgan Seabert of Texas getting the Victory with Cathy in 2nd, Amanda Furman 3rd, and in 4th place was the youngest competitor for the event and the tour - Maya Johnson.

The Drop Knee division w as the largest division of the competition, and making the finals were traveling veteran tour competitors each representing their own state. Nick Nguyen of Texas was victorious in the DK final for the 4th event in a row performing technical variations of surf and skate maneuvers on his Bodyboard that were simply ridicules. Virginia’s Curtis Lam took 2nd with Morgan Seabert of Texas in 3rd and Sean Silveira of FL in 4th. The Expert Bodyboard Final was a spectacular display of high performance Bodyboarding once again performed by all Veteran tour traveling riders as the Judges and spectators alike witnessed incredible styles and groundbreaking maneuvers. Claiming top honors in the Expert BB and $ 600.00 was Nick Nguyen. Curtis Lam 2nd earned $ 400.00 for his efforts and Sean Silveira 3rd pocketed $ 250.00.

Stand up Flowboarders came strong with solid riding from the local riders as well as traveling competitors spanning six states. Victories went to Local Jake Sieler in Juniors, Kyler Bill of Utah in Men’s, Shawn Hancock of Utah in Masters, and Jessica Nichols of Utah in Female.

Expert Flowboard was a phenomenal display of the highest level of riding you will find anywhere in the Nation, with all of the traveling competitors focused on valuable tour points and cash to be earned. Sean Silveira was again in classic form with high flying Ollie’s, kick flips, 360’s and variations that earned him the top spot on the podium and another $ 600.00 in the process. Curtis Lam claimed 2nd for his third division of the comp and another $400.0. First year stand up rider Nick Nguyen earned a well deserved 3rd along with $ 250.00, serving notice that he intends to be stand up force in the future.

The fifth event on the 2009 Wave Loch FLOW Tour at Silver Rapids went down in great form, with double the points and cash. None of this would have happened if not for the awesome and generous support of Chris Stuart and Jeff Colburn at Silver Mountain resort as well as the entire staff of Andi & Patrick Johnson, Jeff Mullis, Lynn Power, and Dwaine Sieler, the sponsors, judges and Rob Chalfant of Wave Loch.

The Next stop on the 16 event Wave Loch FLOW Tour is June 20th at Plano, TX. It’s an A rated event with a $1000 Expert Purse to be split in the Expert divisions. Hope to see you see you there!! CG.

Kellogg, Idaho Flow Competition

We flew to the first stop of our summer of flow in Kellogg, Idaho this past weekend. We flew into Spokane, Washington on Friday afternoon, and decided to drive an hour west to go to Moses Lake, Washington and ride their flowrider. It was awesome! The people there were so nice (they called Aaron and Curtis "the Pro's from Virginia") and the wave was great! They even took out the divider and let us stay after hours to ride. After that, we hit up Jack in the Box (which I had never been to, had just seen the commercials on tv) and then drove 2ish hours to Kellogg, Idaho. We didn't get in until midnight, or 3am our time. Since Aaron and I had gotten up at 3:30 the day before, it was an interesting trip to the hotel :)

The next day, Aaron's two buddies from the Navy, Brad and Paul, drove 5 hours from Seattle to hang out with us at the waterpark and watch the competition. Little did we know that another buddy of theirs who was on the ship with them, Meghan, worked at the waterpark!

The competition started at 6 and went so smooth. It was over by 9:30---awards and everything! We all walked away with awards. Aaron placed 1st in Masters (30+). Curtis placed 2nd in Drop Knee, Pro Bodyboarding and Pro Standup. I placed 3rd in Women's bodyboarding and 5th in Women's standup. It was a great weekend. Kellogg is definitly a place we will visit again.

And now, pictures......

Congrats

Congratulations to all those who competed at the Waveloch Flow Tour competition at Massanutten yesterday (May 16, 2009).

I am extreemly proud of Aaron, who competed in both masters(30+ age group) and drop knee divisions. Sadly, in drop knee, he didn't advance in after his heat, but thats because he was in the same heat as 2 of the top 5 riders in the country. He still did a great job. The masters division, though, was a different story. Aaron won first place, and in my opinion, really raised the bar for the masters division.

I also competed in my first flowboarding comp yesterday and placed 3rd in women's standup. I was a little nervous, but I'm hoping that at the other comps we go to, I won't let my nerves get to me.

Pics and videos to come, once I upload them to my computer :)

Massanutten Comp

Is Saturday!!!! I think I'm going to compete in women's standup. Aaron will be competing in master's bodyboarding and men's drop knee. Wish us luck!

Pics, maybe vids, and how we all did to come....

Sahara Sams

For the most part, we had a great time at Sahara Sams in West Berlin, NJ. There were some not so good moments though. While we were waiting outside to get in, one of the managers came out and told me that I wasn't allowed to ride standup (they thought it was going to be really busy, so they put a barrier in to have more than 1 person riding at a time...and the lifeguards hadn't been fully trained). Then, after we'd been there since 11, the "owner" comes down at 6:45, and starts yelling at Aaron while he's riding and threatens to kick him out of the park. Apparently, the "owner" thought that Aaron was attempting to standup on his bodyboard (what?!?) while doing drop knee; he also said that since "it was his waterpark" he could do what he wanted with regards to the rules. He said that he didn't want people doing these tricks, getting hurt and then suing him, however, we talked to his insurance agent earlier that day, and she thought that what Aaron was doing was awesome. I'm not sure we're going back. It all depends on if they change their policies. Anyway, here is a video of Aaron riding there.

A little deviation from the norm

This year, hundreds of thousands of people will hear the words "You have cancer", and there's a good chance that some of them will be people we know and love. We have all been touched by cancer in some way ... and we all have the power to make a difference. That's why I have chosen to fight back right here in my own community by participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®.

Relay for Life is an important event for me each year. This year, same as every year, in Shenandoah County, Relay celebrated on the Friday/Saturday before Memorial Day.

I want to invite you to join me in the fight against cancer by making a donation in support of my efforts. Further down in this message is a link to my personal Relay For Life® web page where you can make an online contribution. You can make a one time gift or increase your impact by donating monthly. Every amount, no matter how small, makes a difference and provides hope.

Relay For Life® brings more than 3.5 million people from across the country together each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

Please visit http://main.acsevents.org/goto/amandafurman to donate (with a credit card) or message me if you would like to send a check or cash.

Thank you in advance for your support. Together, we will celebrate, remember, and fight back.

A Year in Flow

I started out 2008 just taking pictures of Aaron and friends, then started riding bodyboard about April, and then in August started riding standup. Since then I've graduated to owning my own board, and not to be tooting my own horn, have actually had people complement my riding (though it was pointed out to me that it was because I was the only one riding standup in line, therefore, of course I would look good). Anyway, here is our photographic year in review.

Enjoy!
